Mount these steel base rails in your truck bed stake pockets, and bolt on the accessory racks where you want them. Holds 2 string trimmers, 1 backpack blower, 1 spool of trimmer line, and a 3- at 3-1/4' intervals let you attach accessory racks along the rails Rubber caps cover ends of rails for safety and to provide a finished look 1 Lockable string trimmer rack Holds 2 standard string trimmers 1.
I'm looking at three different options for mounting trimmer racks on a truck setup and need some opinions and mounting options. My concerns are, I pull the truck in the garage at night, so I'm trying to work something out that won't hang over top too much, and easily fit in the garage without issues. I own the green touch. It has worked perfectly. I take them off in 1-2 seconds and put them back in about 2-3 seconds. Sturdy, quality, can be locked etc. With the dual rack setup I am a couple inches too tall to fit in my garage.
I have a 4x2 silverado. Not particularly a tall truck either. Fitting in a garage may be tough with any of the options.I wanted the rack to connect to my truck and not a trailer. You get exactly what is in that picture. The two yellow bars to brace it on each end.
2 things to connect to each of your trimmers to slide into the holding slots. That's not enough to really connect anything to just a truck so I purchased the 8 foot bar thing that is something like 80 bucks.
It adds probably 4 inches and may be the reason I can't fit in my garage like you say you should be able to. It has a couple metal things you slide into the holes on your bed and clamp it down. The racks then screw into the bar. I also got the back pack blower rack and installed it too.
I have the rack and blower installed on 1 side. It works really well for me.
Cedar Lawn Care, thanks or that heads up. I'm really thinking about doing the same thing, going with the Green Touch (Xtreme Racks) and just doing it right the first time. I see what your saying, by your using the rail, which is adding an extra 4' to your total height of the racks. I was thinking along the lines of welding a long tube that goes underneath my bed rail, and then bolting the racks through the bed rail and the tube below it. Pretty much the same concept without the added four extra inches.
You see what I'm saying? Would you happen to have a tool box in your set-up? That's my only concern, I have a tool box in my bed, which also covers up the bed pockets closer to the cab, isn't that how your rail is held in place, the pockets?
I will definitely be putting the blower rack on the other side also, sounds like mine will set up similar to yours. The way I'm thinking, my bed is 6.3', trimmers are 72 inches. So it's looking like I will have remove the bottom trimmer to open the tool box, which isn't a big deal for me. I like to use that area for my fuel cans, line, extra blades, and tools throughout the day. My box is a low profile, which only has about a 2' overlap over the top of the bed, so I'm not seeing any issues there, the trimmers should fit over the top of that.If you have some pictures of your setup, it would be awsome if you could post them. If you don't have none uploaded already, don't worry about it, I wouldn't want you to have to go out of your way, but it would be a big help!I'm really glad to hear your setup is working, minus the not being able to fit the garage. I know what you mean though, I had looked at that bed rail set up, their super nice, but I do hate that added couple inches.
Thanks again for your post! Richard, thank you for sharing that information. I'm still trying to decide which way to go, the link you provided kind of backed up the reasoning behind why I was wanting to avoid the Multi Rack.
I'm leaning more toward the single jungle jims on both sides. A lot of guys it seems have success with them, especially on trailers, but I've seen lots and lots of stories of all these breaking under loads of stress, it seems more so with the (3) trimmer rack. The Jungle Jims single position setup seems more economical, they are $61.00 each at lawnscaper warehouse. With the single setup on each side I would still be able to fit my garage, and they seem like they would last for a long time without having to worry about stress or weight.
I'm only part-time anyways, so a large setup wouldn't be necessary. It would be nice to be able to just pull the truck right up in the garage without having to worry about un-loading, loading at night time. With the Jungle Jims, shouldn't I be able to just weld an iron plate on the bottom side of the bed rail edge, drill, and bolt directly through the bed and the plates? With the. For the single setup on each side, I found these for a much better price. I could grab two of these, for the price of one of the Jungle Jim racks. The clasp that goes over the handle, you could see there might be a little bit of play room in there, which would be easy fixable, by putting one or two sticky soft velco strips on the inside of the clasp and wrapping it with some tape and it seems it would virtually eliminate any free play.
I haven't een a deal that came close to these. The only thing that concerns me is the mount on the bottom of them, rather than making a flat square piece, they put the goofy shaping on it, where you can only put two bolts through there. I would cut that edge off and weld another piece to it, where I could get four or five bolt through there, to low a thief now. I don't approve of the idea of only having two bolt through there, but again, an easy fix.
